I deleted my example of thunderstuck on youtube. I had grabbed an acoustic guitar and played the intro verbatum to demonstrate right hand technique to a student. The damn thing got 3000 hits. And more comments by far than anything I had posted, all negaitive. Mostly because I did'nt drag all my equiptment out and overdrive the sound on an electric guitar. electric, acoustic, the notes and approach are the same. This interested me, and I noticed how many posts there are for this song, most sounded really terrible, none sounded even close. But yet I was critizsized for my post, which again, was clean note for note. None of the posters could play 16th notes in the right hand fast enough to do the intro, full of bad technique and flams. It reminded me of Abe Neighborham, the goaway jackass that deleted so many of the files here. Very young male guitarists that aspire to play rock today, have impressed me as a group of spoiled, vendictive, egotistical hacks, with little or no education. Of course, that would'nt apply to all, but that you tube post really proved my point, I should have left it up, now that I think of it, to prove THIS point.

Here's something I've been looking @ lately. A guy in Austin has a website called sick guitar. Here is the goaway page

http://www.sickguitar.com/Vids/index.html

There are some very accomplished fast players on here, and some funny stuff. One guy who got my attention was Charlie Kramer. His logo says "taste is for sissies", but watching the goaway made me wonder what it was he was trying to accomplish. It left me with the feeling, he has sat in the same spot, alone, for many years doing just that, meandering all over the fretboard without a thought to melody or a key center. Don't get me wrong, Charlie has some prowess, and his approach could lead to other things. His right hand technique is damn good, but I got bored pretty fast. What do you think? If you owned a club, and hired musicians, would you hire Charlie ? Name some guitarists that don't play that fast, but yet compell you to listen, Larry Carlton, Amos Garret, ect. Speed is a tool, but only one, and there are a lot of tools in that box.

You know Steve there was a time when it was important to play just like these guys, but one day I woke up and realized that slashing had its place but knowing when it accompanied a song and when it was all show,in other words I rather paly one note and get it right then play 30 and make it sound like who knows, maybe if I wa still doing LSD from the sixties it would sound right but today I am 53 and my hearing isnt as great and I like playing slow hand and making the people feel my music rather than just hearing it,but then hey thats just me.louis

I know Ship. The thing is, we have been younger players and know what that's like, but younger players don't know what it's like to see music from our perspective. When John McLaughlin became famous, I was honing that. And trying to play as fast as possible, and still use some of it. The world has changed also. When we were younger, it was'nt like it was supposed to be a contest. And that's how rock guitar music is percieved by certain individuals nowdays. Well I got some news, IT'S BEEN DONE ! Over and over. You cannot play any faster than has already been done. These obviously goaway guitar players were falling all over themselves to critisize me for playing goddamn thunderstruck (done and boring by the way) without a electric guitar and a stupid fuzzbox. I got more news, TAKE AWAY THERE FUZZBOX AND THEY GOT NOTHING. Now I love my real tube tube driver, and get a real thrill using it @ a gig. But I might have use for it a total of 5 minutes a night in a variety band. Guys like goaway jackass can weedley wheeeeeeeeee all they want in their basement, but when you get out in the real musicians world, making a living, they have a rude awakening coming. Cause it's about taste, styles, and the venue you have been HIRED to accomodate. And that's the only way I know of how to be employed, be skilled and flexible, and keep your ears open. Otherwise, go sell insurance, cuz you aint gonna cut it in the real world.

Truly beautiful, watched the whole thing. I have been hired to play 3 solo gigs, and am struggling to come up with 3 hours of material. I have a standard repitoire I use, but normally it's just a fill in @ some gig's. Some of the ideas displayed in that goaway give me ideas. Thanks for that. By the way, did you check out Charlie Kramer?

RODRIGO Y GABRIELA , damn thats so nice and tasty! hahahahaha bravo senior y senorita !!!! this SLAYS ME ..... gotta respect anyone who can play something that well and make it look so easy......
very, very nice find louis. !!!!
Cool

accoustic is where true music starts , every 15yr old with a kramer guitar wants to be the next "dimebag" or whoever.. but take away the effects and the fancy electronic amplifiers, and most cant even properly tune their guitar
much less play anything resembling melody....

it always amazes me when i hear "the players" rip it up or "shred" the guitar, but ask then what they did or what chord their playing,
AND THEY DONT KNOW !!! no structure or therory knowledge , so their just doing what everyone else does, or doing what theyve been shown ....
come on , show some heart!! dont be another illiterate guitar player, weve got enough of those already !!!! Rolling Eyes

Haha, that is me alright.

Although, swap metal in for rock.
