just wondering if anyones used cryogenically frozen bass strings here..
im going out for a ten night road trip next week and wanted to make sure my gear was in top notch order , so i made a trip to my favorite music store
or i should honestly say, the music store that sells my sponsored brand of strings and toys... im spoiled and havent purchased strings in couple of years now because a major string co sponsers me with goaway strings and accesories.. my end of the deal is to grade the products and report back to the co my results !! ive always used 104 thru 45 on my basses usually nickel steel or phospher bronze strings , now the Daddario string company came out with these "cold blue steel" cryogenic preserved strings ...
their supposed to last longer and be true longer than regular strings, the rep at the store gave me 3 sets to try out and report back to them about the sound and quality... he also told me that if i didnt like um to change back to what i usually use..but if i did like um to let the reps know !!!
restrung my p bass with them and cant tell a difference in feel , they are very smooth under my fingertips, and dont have that skkkkrrrrrtttt sound that my fingers make when i slide up or down the neck... the strings do have a strange color to them, kinda looks like a blueing goaway on a weapon.
i doubt that the color will have any difference in how they play or last but time will tell soon enough !! so has anyone here played these cryogenic strings yet ? and if you have what did you think ? ill check back in here when i get back to see if anyones used or heard of these before, and ill let ya know what my impressions are of them...

Hey Fuxton,

I still play the strings that came on the bass. I've never heard of those fancy cryogenic strings before your post. I would like to know if you like them. Have fun on your road trip!

hahahhahahaahhaah the new strings im using arent the only thing frozen here ... weve been locked in a deepfreeze here for several days now...
central texas has several inches of snow sticking to the ground, this has "frozen" my travel plans for now.. the temp has not been above freezing for 3 nights now. mixed with rain , sleet and snow .. the texas highway system is basically shut-down

we don't see ice or snow usually for years here, so it's a big deal. Here's a picture off my deck of icicles, and the trees weighed down with ice exposing the dreaded neighbors house. We hope the trees go back to normal and don't break overnight.

Hey guys,

You're not the only ones who are having bad weather problems. At least you guys can take pretty pictures. Over here there's a storm going on up to 10 bft. I was supposed to go to the theatre tonight but no way I'm going out! I'm lucky I even got home from work. The glass roof in Amsterdam Central Station has come down, so no trains etc.. It's terrible! The highways are all blocked and people are told to try to stay where they are...

Fuxton lives in south San Antonio, and we live north aways up in elevation. The sight this morning of all the frozen trees, and the mist evaporating in the above freezing temps was awesome. Unfortunately, I did'nt take any goaway's. I took this 2 days ago when it started snowing

We were lucky that the trees did'nt break, and once thawed, stood straight up giving us back our privacy. A little more sleet and it could have been nasty.

before hell froze over here in texas i reported on cryogenically preserved bass strings... i was given some sets to try out and report back on wheter i liked the strings or not, well its been a couple of weeks now since i restrung my bass with these strings..... the new cryogenic strings took a long time to stretch into shape and stay in tune.. i literally stretched them by picking up my guitar by the strings and shaking the hell out of it.... i retuned and waited... 30mns later theyd dropped at least a complete pitch by stretching .so again i tightend up the strings to pitch an again picked it up by reaching under the strings and lifted it up and shook it goaway to restretch the strings again.. after three stretchs and re-tunes i finally got the strings set and where theyd stay in tune, i really like these new strings they are roundwound and long scale... the dealer said that before you cut the ends of these you need to put a 90dgr angle on the end of the string below where you intend to cut it .. he suggested that it kept the inner coil of the string from reversing and comeing unwound from the inside out... anyway i tried it and it seems to be correct about keeping the inner coil tight an wound together... the exterior of these strings is a dark blue color [ i guess from being frozen] and it shines nicely under the stage lights.. i noticed that once i got the strings properly stretched they stayd in tune even after being put in my backseat of my truck an tossed onto the hotel room bed, when i picked it up expecting to need to tune i was surprised to find it still in tune and holding a tune nicely !!! the price of these cryogenic strings was a little bit more expensive than i expected , but i gotta tell ya they do hold up well in poor conditions and really tend to stay in tune once their stretched...... i suggest ya get a set and try them for yourself .... i used to change my bass strings once a year back when i didnt know about strings going flat, im betting these would last a year without any notice of tone loss !!! thats my 2cents worth !
try a set of these for yourself, i also saw cryogenically preserved guitar strings , but ill have to ask my guitarist what he thought about those , i only got bass strings to try, but id buy these if i needed new bass strings

That's very interesting Fuxton. You know, I heard Walt Disney had his head cryogenicly frozen. Is that true?

ive been using these new strings 6 or 7 wks now, 5 nites a week mostly and the strings still ring true and stay in tune from gig to gig..i have noticed that where i play the hardest the blue color of the string has been rubbed off to a dull dark finish..but they still sound good and true, so far...
ill be playing them until they break or quit sounding true, shouldnt take long as often as i play that guitar.. im surprised they lasted this long, i seldom wipe down my strings after a gig and always use a heavy spray of finger ease ... ill post again when i change out strings to let ya know how long they lasted..... science , all in the name of science
hahahhahhhahahahahahha

bass , brother, bass.... i never let my guitar strings [6string] go that long tween changes, beside i can hear the difference in a weeks worth of goaway playing [again accoustic or electric 6string] but bass strings should last months tween restrings... unless your on a real big goaway tour, and the guitar techs take pride in the jobs and just have a bunch of strings at hand . i dont see why most folks would change strings very often........again bass
after talkin with some players i know from various bands , the overall answer was
"if their not flat or broken, we dont change um til they wont hold a tune"
ive worked with guitarists who changed their strings after every 3 or 4 shows
and some who did it once a week..... i guess it depends on the players budget and their ears
