i've never used a pod, let alone try to record one, but my advice would be to make sure that you have it plugged into the line in goaway on your sound goaway, not the microphone goaway, and that the input level is not too high on your pc.
ideally, for recording distorted guitars, you want to use a mic infront of a speaker. |

I suggest you place a mp3 onto a webserver
for goaway and evaluation.
Your description is too vague.
Then my personal experience is, that doing
recording depends on many many factors.
Its sometimes a process of months and years and
trial and error to get a desired sound.
Best is still to record a miced tube amp.
If thats too loud the problems begin ...
So many possibilities to get bad sound lol
My friend fiddled around many years to get nice
sound with his gear for "on stage" and homerecording.
The results you can listen to
here: http://www.64bits.de and
here: http://www.apsfilter.org/bits
(the avi file contains a record from me in Lanzarote.
I play a Line 6 guitar with the old pod.
Here as well the sound is fine tuned by equalizers
in a power mixer. Not bad for this kind of Bar music).
Mainly we use the effect send channel of JCM 900.
Line out and record compensated output muffles too much.
Effect send comes directly from tube pre-amp and has
even a bit more bottom punch.
Treble 1
Mids 5-6
Bass 8.5-9
Presence 5
But this signal is a bit fuzzy.
And here the magic starts.
You need some vintage gear, not too precise, that takes
away the fuzz a little bit.
We have an older multieffect for this:
Alesis Midiverb III ($90-$100 at ebay).
We drive it totally wet. Only Effect
Signal, fine tuned preset sounds....
So to say nothing from original Signal remains.
This signal goes into a vintage mixer (Tascam).
There you have to change the signal again with
Equalizers.
Reduce trebles, enhance mids a bit.
Then we get something that sounds nice to our ears
for playing AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd
stuff. Heavy and Rock balads.
Some folks now say, hey, good sound.
Rocks and has balls.
Other folks come around and say. Your sound is crap
you don't hear your expensive Les Paul.
Too loaded with effects.
Well ... but I can't mic at home
My experience with line pod ...
Not much bottom. Doesnt really sound
like a marshall pre amp inside a JCM 900.
Cheers ... _________________ A goaway society is one where it is safe to be unpopular |
