Hi there,
I own a fender strat. Normally my guitar teacher bought new strings for me when i needed them. But now I have finished music school and I have to buy them myself.
What would you recommend ? I really don't know wich brand and type I should take...

| I use D'Addario's 10's. I have used Earnie Balls as well they are both very good. Fender also puts out guitar strings with bullet ends instead of balls they are supposed to stay in tune better when you use the whammy. I have never used them before though. |

Well those super bullets were on my guitar when I bought it. I was in fact very happy with them.
My teacher bought me Fender strings too but they weren't super bullets. I don't know what their name was but they were good.

Matt. | It all comes down to what YOU like. If you like the super bullets, then just continue using them. There isn't really A 'special' kind of set to each different guitar or guitar brand. You could also just try different string brands out and pin point out the specific brand you like. Good luck _________________ I like playing guitar |

I can agree with the d'addario strings, I also us the 10's and I think they are great! They have a great sound and they seem to last pretty long too (allthough I change them every month ) I've never tried Earnie Balls so I can't say anyhting about that but I do know that Fender strings are not really my thing |

I use whatever is in the "bargain barrel" at various stores. Usually $2.95/set.
On hand right now seems I have some packs of Vinci, Darco, Dr Ducks, No-name, and Fender Stainless Bullets: all in 0.010" - 0.046".
I also have some Thomastik-Infelds but they're pricey. I use them on Jazz guitars, though I don't have one right now. |

I prefer 11-52 strings, unknown brand on my strat, when i tune in Eb, and 10-52 for normal tuning.!
Perhaps you should try out some DR strings, they tend to sound very well on Fender guitars..

generally, there are no specific strings to use on certain types of guitars but...if you have a floating trem...don't use ernie ball slinky's...they tend to be a bit too...well, slinky. lol
d'arddario - personally, i don't like them, though many people use them and swear by them...i believe yngwie is one of these people.
ernie ball - i've only used them once...and they felt nice to begin with..until, less than a week later, i broke a string. this MAY be due to my heavy playing style, but i don't know. once again many people use them and swear by them, including john petrucci, steve vai...etc
dean markley - nice, full sounding strings. not too good if you want something brighter sounding, but great for mellow, melodic rhythm strumming.
ghs - now, these are my strings...they fell like new, even after a month of abuse...and i sweat a lot when playing. not too bright sounding, not to mellow, these are the strings for any kind of metal. work great for floating bridges. used by metallica...how much more metal can you get?
as for string gauges...experiment. i use a variety. on my ESP...i find 9's too thin, i break them, but i don't like the feel of 10's for metal and shred...so, the solution? GHS 9.5's. the only company i've ever seen make them, and i swear by them.
on my strat, i use very chunky 13-56 strings, by dean markley. used almost entirely for rhythm playing, this guitar is normally kept in drop C or D tuning, and they hold up very well for dropped tunings. |

Hehehe... i use d'addario chromes 13-56 on my epiphone and have it tuned to B the sound is just evil hehe
on my jackson... d'addario 9's or 10's. I still use 9's mostly but that's changing very rapidly _________________ Greetings |

I like the Fender Bullets, but the nickel kind, not nickel plated steel. I think it's a sweeter, smoother tone. I use a 10-48 set on a Strat, no worries. _________________ Death Or Glory - Who Dares Wins! |

The normal Fender Strings are cheap and well.
Some prefer Nickel .. but must not be ...
I personally take Gibson Brit Wires and Nickel wound ....
They had a series where the b and e string in the set were
double ... that was cute ...
But .. if you have good saddles on guitar .. my strings now
are over 1 year old and I didnt need to change ...
And I still have enough tone .... _________________ A goaway society is one where it is safe to be unpopular |

Hey Matt did you know that the only way to buy strings is to try different types and pick the ones that you like the sound of, you just have to try lots out and besides almost all strings are made by only a few places and packaged for different companies. As for me I use D'AddarioEXL120.009-.42 and tune down 1/4 step( I play a loy of Stevie Ray Vaughn)only on my Strat on some others I might use Dean Markley's but this is a subject were everybody use's what they like,so try to play more.louis |

hehe, I had a sneakin' suspicion. I guess I 'll go over to the music store and just buy 10 sets of different strings and check out wich i like and don't.
Wich size of strings would you recommend?
