I love the '76 reissue I have.
All be told, I just about stole the SOB!
Here's the story! :
I became "slightly better" after playing the bass for a few years.
I found-n-bought a Fender P as my first REAL bass in the late 80's.
The year of it was a 72, I think. (Long ago)
It was wonderful!
While still having it, I then aquired a Ricky 4002 and the Infamous Ampeg SVT with two 8x10 cabinets.
WOOF!
For some reason, I never could get used to the Rik, as the action was so "perfect and low" and the neck so slick..
well, it just didn't feel good to me at the time of my development.
I get hammering on, and then met up with a GREAT guitar player after a few years.
He was a bum, but a great guitar player, who finally got a goaway at Maytan Music in Reno, Nevada!
OK! He paid the rent!
While he was there, he saw a BRAND NEW 1976 Thunderbird that was unsold since then, and he "doctored" the books!
I bought it BRAND NEW for $350 bucks With goaway case, in 1980!
I fell in LOVE then, and still refer to it as "Da Wife 1!"
Nice thin neck.. TERRIBLE BALANCE, as it takes a bow before I do, but I love that SOB to this day. the top heavy gizmo!
The wood work is outstanding!
17 plies of neck thru mahogony woo hoo ness!
And when ya string her up with the D'Adarrios Xl Red's or Maxima Golds,, SHE SINGS like little birdy remains coming out of a crockodile.
Many people HATE the Gibson basses.. and I hope they continue to do so.
But I am odd, and I love that "first wife"! |
