So my acoustic guitar is about twenty years old... it was my dad's, but he gave it to me since he never learned how to play.
The pick guard is starting to peel off, and I noticed that underneath it's much much lighter than the rest of the sound board... probably from all the years it's been laying around. Is there any way I can buy a pick guard that's the same size, or if I were to take off the halfway gone pick guard, would there be some way to either age the area underneath, or clean up the rest of it?

RxRingo64,no offence is meant by this but why change what it is,if you mlike it without the pickguard dont worry about it,but if it is a concern to you just take it to a good shop and have a new pick guard put on you might want to shop around for different styles( tortise shell is my fav.)as for the light aging under neath well it just makes the guitar look like its been played, you certainly wont really loose any value because of it.louis PS just enjoy playing it after 20 years its earned its age and should have some good sound to it if its ma solid top.
just play it till it breaks down, i played the guitar of my mom for 4 years, it was about 20 years old. the thing that holds ur strings under the hole in your guitar (man, i really dont know 1 englisch term for these parts of a guitar) was shot away cuz it couldnt handle the strength of the pulling strings.
now i got a new one.
the longer u play it, the better ur new guitar will feel. _________________ greetz gert

I took your advice.
As ugly as it may look without the pickguard, it still sounds pretty damn sweet, and to be honest, I'd rather own the ugliest guitar in the world, just as long as it played well.
