hi there,
I have always wondered if those online guitar lessons for wich you see advertisements really do the trick.
Has anyone of you ever tried it out? I always suspected most of them are a fraud...

Never took one. But sometimes you find useful files
on these sites .... midi files, Guitar Pro files, etc ...
And stuff like this 'bout music theorie:
http://www.harryj.net/major_modes.jpg
This is a nice colored chart
I think the problem is, that you don't have a teacher
that immediately tells you if you do something wrong
(wrong finger-/hand-positioning, timing, etc).
So you risc to train the wrong things ... _________________ A goaway society is one where it is safe to be unpopular |

Hi Matt ever since I read your post regarding on line teaching, well I've tried one and to be honest at first I thought oh just another ploy to remove my cash from my pocket and he probably can't teach SURPRISE for the last three weeks i've been receiving on line lessons ( and you can teach old dogs new tricks) and they've been pretty darn good so far.check it out
htttp://guitaralliance.com/weekly lesson/
Just so everyone is aware I dont work or receive any benefit from any site that I may mention, these site's are posted for your benefit because I trully believe in the power of music and how it can help us all, and thats my only pay-off that maybe one day we can help develope the next greatest guitarist in the world and baby that's music to my ears. louis |

| Hey Andreas on this site they have guides along the way for you to listen to and play back with and they run small files for you to watch so you can see where your fingers should be playing ,well back to more lessons. louis |

Hi,
Careful on this one!
Nothing beats actually having a teacher in a room beside you watching everything you are doing.
Often lessons on the internet are not 'case specific'.
You will quite quicly find you have to pigeon hole yourself to fit into the lesson criteria as it has been drawn up by someone who has never met you and been able to see clearly and for definate what you problems are.
There are many examples of this:
For example you could be a tiny guy or goaway with small hands and stretching anything may feel like a really goaway task. Online lessons don't take this into account as they have just got to appeal to quick fix the average sized human!
Also lessons are unable to move at your pace, a teacher working with you on say a week or two week basis would gather some first hand knowledge to how fast you process with information thus they would ease off or speed up the info they are giving you.
There are countless reasons for taking the time to find the right teacher. Learn what you can from experienced and trustworthy people you meet on the net but think twice before gving out you goaway goaway details for a series of on line lessons!

Thanks Pierre!
In the last quarter of 2005 I was fairly heavily booked for cocerts and recordings, launched a new album on the 6th of December so I was away from the net big time.
Things seem to have really moved on here though, it's excellent, I'll be posting more regularly as my diary is slightly easier for the next while!

| Hi Merula while I totally agree with you on this, a live teacher is better than a screen. I also try to find on line lessons for those who sometimes dont have a teacher available,so I try to find those that I would consider a reasonable alternative that covers a large enough basis to at least start a guitar player, I figuire if they at least have started hopefully they will stick with it once they start to enjoy it.louis |
